Investigation underway after Garden City home explosion injures one person

Garden City, Kansas – Authorities are investigating a home explosion in Garden City that resulted in one person being injured. The incident occurred on Saturday evening on West Fair Street, prompting the Garden City Fire Department to respond to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a residence severely damaged by the explosion, surrounded by a significant debris field. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) from Finney County attended to the victim, who was then taken to St. Catherine Hospital for treatment. Efforts were made to secure the area, with Black Hills Energy shutting off the gas supply and the City of Garden City Electric department addressing a downed power line.

The Kansas State Fire Marshal’s office has been called in to assist with the investigation. At this time, there are no estimates available for the extent of the damage caused by the explosion. As authorities continue their investigation, road closures have been implemented on Fair Street between 9th Street and 11th Street, as well as on 10th Street between Fair and Hamline Streets.
