Innocent Woman Nearly Beaten to Death by Attacker Along Venice Canals: Survivor’s Terrifying Recollection

Venice, California – A horrifying attack along the canals of Venice, California left a woman, Mary Klein, 54, with severe injuries after being ambushed by an attacker on April 6. Mary was walking near her home when the assailant struck her from behind, causing extensive damage. The assault resulted in multiple fractures to her jaw, broken teeth, a significant head wound, and various bruises on her face and chest.

The victim, Mary, who is a single mother, home healthcare nurse, and local artist, now faces a long road to recovery. Medical treatments and surgeries will be necessary, along with emotional support and physical therapy to aid in her healing process. Additionally, Mary works as a full-time caregiver and hopes for a speedy recovery to continue her duties.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect, Anthony Jones, 29, was apprehended in San Diego late Thursday night. Described as a Black male, approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall, and weighing around 200 pounds, Jones is believed to be a transient. The attacks on April 6 were both characterized by a “sexual element,” with the suspect targeting two women in separate assaults along the Venice canals.

Mary expressed relief upon learning of the suspect’s arrest and extended sympathy towards the other victim who remains in a coma. As grateful as she is for the support and efforts of law enforcement, Mary emphasized the importance of accountability for perpetrators of violent crimes. She hopes that the suspect receives a severe punishment and urges a focus on addressing mental health, substance abuse, and homelessness issues in Southern California.

The Los Angeles Police Department credited the teamwork of investigators Lesley Perkins and Asia Hodge in capturing the assailant. Despite the traumatic experience, Mary holds no animosity towards the suspect but advocates for a life sentence. A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist Mary with her medical expenses as she navigates her recovery process.

As the case moves forward to the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office, heightened patrols around the Venice canals are being implemented by the LAPD in response to the attacks. This incident serves as a somber reminder of the need for vigilance and community safety measures in the face of such violent acts.
