Detectives are examining what happened inside an Oliver Street apartment before a wounded man reached the parking garage and later died.
HOUSTON, Texas — Houston police are working to reconstruct the final moments of an altercation at an Oliver Street apartment after a wounded man made his way to a parking garage, received emergency help and later died at a hospital.
Officers were called to the Heights at 1520 Apartments just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, according to police. Investigators said the man, who was in his 20s, had been stabbed during a confrontation inside an apartment near Washington Avenue.
Despite his injury, the man left the apartment and traveled through the complex until he reached the parking garage. Houston Fire Department personnel and police encountered him there, and he was transported to a hospital for treatment.
The man later died, police said. Authorities had not released his identity in the initial report, and investigators had not announced a final determination about how the confrontation began.
Officers also found an injured woman inside the apartment. Police said she was speaking with her mother by phone and making suicidal statements. Investigators believe she and the man were a couple who lived together at the complex.
The woman was taken into custody while detectives continued their investigation. Police had not announced a criminal charge against her, and investigators cautioned that they still did not know which person initiated the violence.
Lt. R. Willkens said investigators were considering whether events earlier in the evening contributed to the dispute. Police said the woman had apparently been at a bar before returning home, but authorities had not established precisely what triggered the confrontation.
The unanswered sequence inside the apartment remained a key part of the investigation Thursday. Detectives were working to determine what happened before the stabbing, how the confrontation escalated and what role each person played.
No final investigative findings or charges had been announced as of Thursday. Houston police said they were continuing to confirm information surrounding the deadly encounter.
