Cynthia Young, who endured the immense loss of her family members during the rampage, has been granted the right to access the gunman’s health and military records by serving as a special administrator of the shooter’s estate.
This judicial approval came on Tuesday, enabling Young to acquire crucial documents that could potentially explain the motives and missed preventative measures behind the shooter’s actions on October 25, 2023. These records are sought not only for Young’s personal understanding but to assist other grieving families and support ongoing legal actions against responsible parties.
The assailant, identified as 40-year-old Army reservist Robert Card, executed the shooting at two separate locations in Lewiston. The first attack occurred at a local bowling alley where Young’s husband, Bill, and 14-year-old son, Aaron, were fatally shot. The violence then continued at a nearby bar and grill, busy with a cornhole tournament at the time.
An independent report highlighted critical lapses, pointing out that both the Army Reserve and the local police missed significant warning signs that could have possibly prevented Card’s violent outbreak. The report stresses failures in addressing Card’s psychiatric crisis and in managing his access to weapons.
Amid these revelations, the probate process facilitated by Young’s petition plays a pivotal role.
