GOP Enraged Over Trump’s Indictment

Former President Donald Trump was indicted on March 30 for allegedly misreporting payments of hush money to Stormy Daniels, an adult film actress, weeks before the 2016 election. Florida governor Ron DeSantis (R) condemned the indictment of the former President.

DeSantis, who many see as the only political contender for the Republican nomination besides Trump, took to Twitter to criticize the decision to indict Trump. DeSantis further stated that Florida would not assist in Trump’s extradition to New York. Sadly the extradition is beyond the power of the governor. According to DeSantis, the liberal left is inverting the rule of law by using the judicial system to achieve political goals. DeSantis stated that it was and is “un-American.”

DeSantis added that: Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney sponsored by George Soros, has routinely manipulated the law to lower felonies and justify the illegal activity. Yet, he is now extending the law to attack a political rival. Florida will not help in an extradition request in light of the dubious circumstances surrounding this Manhattan prosecutor sponsored by George Soros and his political agenda.

Trump’s defense attorney, Joseph Tacopina, told CNN that the former President would likely arrive in New York early next week.

In a lengthy statement, President Trump criticized the indictment. Trump said this is the greatest “political persecution and election interference” in history. Trump added that since he descended the golden escalator at Trump Tower, and even before he was inaugurated as  President, the Radical Left Democrats — the enemies of the hardworking men and women of this country — have been on a witch hunt to destroy the Make America Great Again movement. Trump went on to list all the wrongdoings, starting with Russia, Russia, Russia; the Mueller hoax; Ukraine, the impeachment hoax; the unconstitutional Mar-a-Lago raid, and now this.

Vivek Ramaswamy, an entrepreneur and Republican presidential contender, also criticized the indictment. In a video-accompanied Twitter message, Ramaswamy said that the politically driven indictment of the 45th President of the United States represents a dark period in American history. It will damage public confidence in the election and the legal system. It is unpatriotic for the ruling party to arrest its political opponents using the police force. |”Principles go beyond partisanship.” Let the American people determine who governs.

Mike Pompeo, who served as Trump’s secretary of state and may run for President in 2024, also joined the GOP’s anger. The Manhattan district attorney undermines American faith in our judicial system. Bragg is the same prosecutor supported by Soros who refuses to pursue serious crimes and has reduced more than half of all felonies to misdemeanors, he said on Twitter.

Prosecuting serious crimes keeps people secure, but political prosecutions expose the American legal system to the risk of being perceived as an abuse instrument. DA Bragg should use government dollars and time to defend law-abiding residents and not engage in political maneuvering, Pompeo added.

Nikki Haley, another presidential contender, said that Bragg is seeking “political points.”
