Sheriff’s deputies had responded to the Stoneside Drive home in 2025 for domestic and mental health-related incidents, officials said.
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Harris County sheriff’s deputies had been called to a northwest Harris County home for a domestic disturbance and a mental health matter more than a year before authorities returned to the property and found a 64-year-old father dead, officials said.
The earlier law enforcement contacts are part of the background emerging after the Aug. 27 death of Aubrey Sanders at a home in the 16700 block of Stoneside Drive. His 30-year-old son, Liam Jacob Sanders, has been charged with murder. Authorities allege the younger Sanders stabbed his father and then called 911 to report what had happened.
Deputies were dispatched to the home shortly after 11 a.m. that Thursday. Authorities said they found Aubrey Sanders suffering from multiple stab wounds and pronounced him dead at the scene. Liam Sanders was detained there and later booked into the Harris County Jail after investigators filed a murder charge.
Harris County Sheriff’s Office officials said deputies had previously responded to the address in May 2025. One call involved a domestic disturbance, while another involved a mental health emergency. Maj. Errol Dean said the mental health response resulted in the suspect being taken for emergency detention. Authorities have not said the earlier calls involved violence against Aubrey Sanders or established that they directly contributed to the 2026 killing.
The distinction leaves important questions unanswered about the history at the home. Investigators have not publicly detailed the circumstances of the 2025 domestic disturbance or explained what prompted the mental health intervention. Officials also have not disclosed whether any other law enforcement calls were made to the residence between those incidents and the fatal encounter more than a year later.
Court records provide additional details about the morning of the killing. According to those records, Liam Sanders took a rideshare to his father’s home before the confrontation. Investigators said he later told them he lost control during a conversation with his father. Authorities allege he used a work pocketknife during the attack.
Records also say Sanders made serious accusations against his father while explaining what investigators described as his motive. A review of Harris County court records did not substantiate those allegations. Aubrey Sanders had one misdemeanor simple assault case from 1996 that resulted in a fine, but the available records did not support the more serious claims attributed to his son.
Authorities said Aubrey Sanders’ 19-year-old daughter, who has special needs and lived with him, was away from the house at the time of the killing. Officials have not released additional details about where she was or the family’s circumstances, and those details are not necessary to establish the criminal allegations now before the court.
Liam Sanders remains charged with murder, and the case has not been adjudicated. Investigators have not announced a final determination about what led to the confrontation, and the latest court records reviewed in published reporting did not indicate that Sanders had an attorney.
