Fatal Shooting at Coopers Hawk Apartment Homes Sparks JSO Investigation in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a fatal shooting that occurred at the Coopers Hawk Apartment Homes in the Mandarin area. The victim, a 16-year-old boy, lost his life in the incident, which took place late Friday evening on Old St. Augustine Road.

According to JSO, the shooting occurred following the relocation of a large party from a nearby location to the apartment complex. A confrontation between two groups escalated into violence, resulting in the fatal shooting. At least 10 shots were fired, and the police are working to determine if there was more than one shooter involved.

As the investigation unfolds, police have revealed that they are interviewing approximately 7 individuals who are considered to be witnesses to the shooting. Among these witnesses are both teenagers and adults. In addition, JSO has issued a public appeal for anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.

Haraka Carswell, founder of Silent Women Speaking, emphasized the devastating impact of gun violence, particularly during the holiday season. She stated, “Families are hurting, it’s the holidays, instead of preparing for a new year, mom has to prepare for a burial.” This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the profound and far-reaching consequences of such acts of violence.
