Family Tragedy Unfolds During Child Custody Deposition: Ex-Husband’s Father Shoots and Kills Couple

Las Vegas, Nevada – Ashley Prince, embroiled in a child custody battle, had concerns about her safety during a deposition involving her ex-husband, Dylan Houston. However, after learning that Dylan would not be present at the meeting, she canceled the request for security. Tragically, Ashley and her attorney husband, Dennis Prince, were shot and killed by Dylan’s father during the deposition at Prince Law Group’s office in Summerlin. The incident left the couple’s infant son without parents.

The custody battle between Ashley and Dylan had taken a contentious turn, with Dennis Prince sending Dylan photos and details of a private investigation just five days before the fatal shooting. The investigation revealed that Dylan had been involved in drinking and driving incidents as recent as March 29. Despite these revelations, Dylan’s behavior leading up to the shooting suggested a lack of concern for the legal proceedings.

The shooter, Joseph Houston II, Dylan’s father, turned the gun on himself after killing Dennis and Ashley Prince. The tragic incident shed light on the complexity of the custody battle, with court records showing that the couple had joint custody of their two young children, but the specifics were still in dispute.

Following the killings, attorneys for Ashley Prince filed an emergency motion to grant sole custody of the children to Ashley’s sister. Allegations were made in the motion regarding Dylan Houston’s potential involvement or knowledge of his father’s intentions before the attack. Dylan denied the allegations in a court filing and could not be reached for comment.

Ashley had expressed concerns about Dylan’s possession of firearms at his father’s house, where the deposition was set to take place. She had sought security measures for the meeting and a school event, but ultimately canceled the protection for the deposition upon learning of Dylan’s absence. Dylan Houston, a partner at Resnick & Louis in Las Vegas, has been licensed to practice law in Nevada since 2015, following in his father’s footsteps who was licensed in 1974.

The devastating events surrounding the custody battle and deposition shed light on the complexities and dangers that can arise in such legal disputes. Despite efforts to ensure safety and security, the Prince family tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the potential risks involved in legal proceedings, especially in cases involving high emotions and conflicts.
