Explosion in Kurram Region Kills Four, Injures Two Amid Calls for Peace

Kurram, Pakistan – Tragedy struck in central Kurram region on Sunday as four individuals lost their lives and two others sustained injuries in the aftermath of an improvised explosive device (IED) blast. The horrific incident occurred when a car carrying passengers was passing by a roadside where the deadly device had been planted, according to District Police Officer (DPO) Nisar Ahmed Khan.

DPO Khan revealed that the passengers were en route to purchase a sacrificial animal for Eid when the explosion occurred. The District Emergency Officer of Rescue 1122, Ghulam Murtaza, reported that rescue teams promptly responded to the explosion, swiftly transporting the deceased to a nearby hospital and the critically wounded individual to Peshawar for urgent medical care.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Lower Kurram, two siblings fell victim to assailants who opened fire on them, as confirmed by DPO Khan. Investigations into both incidents are currently underway to shed light on the perpetrators and motives behind the tragic events.

Expressing their anguish and frustration at the persistent violence in the area, local residents organized a peaceful march covering a distance of forty kilometers. The demonstrators called upon the government to prioritize efforts to restore peace and stability in the region, emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced security measures and proactive intervention to prevent further bloodshed.

During the peace march, individuals representing diverse ideologies and beliefs united in their demand for collective action towards achieving lasting peace in the district. The display of unity and solidarity underscored the community’s shared commitment to overcoming adversity and fostering a peaceful coexistence among all residents.
