Logan County, Ohio, was hit by a series of tornadoes, with at least eight confirmed by the National Weather Service. The tornado outbreak resulted in significant damage and casualties. Among the tornadoes reported were an EF-3 in Logan County, EF-2 in Crawford/Richland, Darke County, Union County, and EF-1 in Licking County, Hancock County, Mercer, Auglaize County, and western Mercy County.
The destructive storms caused widespread devastation, leaving several people dead in their wake. Logan County Sheriff’s Office confirmed at least three fatalities and conducted extensive search and rescue operations in the affected area, checking over 1,700 structures for victims. Additionally, 19 individuals reportedly suffered concussions or fractures during the storm, according to Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefoutaine.
The Logan County Emergency Management Agency described the situation as a “mass casualty event,” indicating the severity of the disaster. The impact of the tornadoes was evident in the images and footage showing flattened homes, businesses, downed power lines, and uprooted trees throughout the area.
Residents, like Jerry Watson, expressed shock and disbelief at the catastrophic event, with Watson comparing the experience to scenes from the movie “Twister.” Indian Lakes High School served as a shelter for displaced individuals, as the community rallied together to help those affected by the devastation.
Governor Mike DeWine acknowledged the efforts of first responders and volunteers in response to the disaster, commending the resilience and solidarity of the community during such challenging times. Logan County Commissioner Joe Antram announced that the county had been placed under a declaration of disaster, highlighting the urgent need for support and donations to aid in the recovery efforts. People from all over the state mobilized to provide assistance to those impacted by the tornadoes.
