The incident took place at the Nostrand Houses in Sheepshead Bay, where the child, identified as Baba, was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries and underwent surgery for brain bleeding.
Kamara, Baba’s mother, shared that she was preparing for the day with her three sons when the accident occurred. The family resides in a fifth-floor apartment, and the fall happened quickly, leaving no time for intervention. Neighbors reported hearing nothing before the boy landed on a grassy patch next to the building on Avenue V.
Kamara immediately ran downstairs to be by her son’s side. Residents of the Nostrand Houses described her as a dedicated mother who consistently warns her children to avoid windows. She recounted the moments leading up to the fall, explaining that Baba had opened the window in an attempt to retrieve his toys.
The boy’s mother noted that there were no safety bars on the window from which Baba fell, although an adjacent window is equipped with them. Kamara had recently removed an air conditioning unit due to cooler weather, which may have contributed to the accident.
