Bloodshed at Florida House Party Leaves Five Shot, Gunman Missing

Authorities say the Reddick investigation has been slowed by partygoers who left the scene.

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — Marion County detectives are asking witnesses to come forward after five people were shot during a crowded Reddick house party early Saturday and no suspect had been publicly named by Monday evening.

The shooting happened about 1:50 a.m. May 9 in the 15800 block of Northwest 44th Road. Deputies said they arrived after reports of multiple people being shot and found that several victims had already been taken to local hospitals. Others were still at the property and needed ambulance transport.

The sheriff’s office said more than 100 people attended the party. After the shooting, deputies established checkpoints in the area to speak with people leaving the scene, but officials said many partygoers drove around or through them. That left detectives with fewer immediate witness statements in a case involving five wounded people.

Investigators said people they interviewed reported hearing gunfire but claimed they did not see what happened. The sheriff’s office said that explanation was “not credible” because of the size of the crowd and the number of people shot. “Your silence is just protecting the shooter,” Valerie Strong, a sheriff’s office spokesperson, said.

Authorities have not released the victims’ names, ages or hometowns. Officials said some had been released from the hospital, while others remained under medical care. The sheriff’s office did not say whether any injuries were life-threatening, and no motive had been announced.

The case now depends on physical evidence from the scene and information from people who were at the gathering. Deputies said they have worked the scene and collected evidence, but they need witnesses to describe who fired, where the shooter was standing and what happened before the gunfire began.

Reddick sits in northern Marion County, north of Ocala, where late-night rural roads can make large gatherings harder to control once people begin leaving. Deputies said the party crowd scattered quickly after the shots, creating gaps in the early timeline that investigators are still trying to fill.

No charges had been filed as of Tuesday morning. The sheriff’s office said detectives continue to interview people connected to the party and review evidence. The next step is locating witnesses who can identify the shooter or provide details that support an arrest.

The investigation remained open Tuesday, with some victims recovering and others still receiving care. Deputies said the public release of a suspect name would depend on new evidence, witness cooperation or both.
