Barrie Native Gabe Batstone Continues Fight for Child Protection After Ex-Wife’s Death

Barrie, Ontario – Nine years after Lisa Batstone killed her daughter, Teagan, she has died while serving a life sentence in a British Columbia prison. The cause of death and further details have not been released, but the incident is currently under investigation. Teagan Batstone was smothered by her mother as she slept on December 10, 2014. Lisa was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 15 years and had been in prison since Teagan was found dead in the trunk of Lisa’s car in Surrey, a suburb of Vancouver.

Teagan’s father, Gabe Batstone, released a statement saying, “Her death does not erase the pain and loss of Teagan, whose absence is felt every day.” Lisa Batstone, also known as Lisa Hamilton, became a Barrie, Ontario resident after moving from Halton Region in her early teenage years. The former couple met in Barrie and Teagan was born in 2006. After divorcing, Lisa was granted custody and remained in B.C., while Gabe retained visitation rights while trying to gain more control over Teagan’s upbringing.

After Teagan’s death, Gabe Batstone set up an organization called Teagan’s Voice, aimed at drawing attention to her life and advocating for changes to better protect children. He stated, “We no longer face the daunting prospect of her potential release, an event that would have posed an undeniable risk to other innocent children.” He vowed to continue his work to improve child protection.
