Baltimore Resident Sues Companies and Employee Over Brutal Attack in Home

Baltimore, Maryland – In a shocking turn of events, a routine evening for April Hurley turned into a nightmare of violence and terror on September 19, 2023. Struggling to recover from a brutal attack allegedly orchestrated by Jason Billingsley, Hurley has taken legal action against Eden’s Homes, Property Pals, and Billingsley.

Court documents reveal the harrowing details of the assault on Hurley and her friend, Jonte Gilmore, where Billingsley allegedly subjected them to unspeakable acts of violence before setting them on fire. Despite the horrific ordeal, both victims managed to survive with the help of emergency care at Shock Trauma.

The case took a darker turn when tech founder Pava LaPere was tragically found dead on the rooftop of her Mount Vernon apartment building, strangled and brutally beaten. The discovery led Baltimore police to publicly identify Billingsley as a threat to the community, eventually leading to his arrest in Bowie, Maryland.

Billingsley, a registered sex offender, and convicted felon was employed as a maintenance worker by Eden’s Homes and Property Pals, the companies responsible for managing and owning Hurley’s residence. In a press conference, Hurley tearfully expressed her disbelief at the near-fatal attack, placing blame on her former landlord and property manager for hiring Billingsley.

As legal proceedings unfold, Hurley’s attorneys argue that Eden’s Homes and Property Pals are vicariously liable for the assault on Hurley, highlighting negligence in the employment process. Despite the absence of a legal requirement for background checks in Maryland, Hurley’s legal team insists on the importance of due diligence, especially when individuals are entrusted with access to personal residences.

The lack of transparency in the initial categorization of Hurley’s incident by the Baltimore Police Department raises concerns about the handling of violent crimes in the community. Questions linger about why Hurley’s traumatic experience was not immediately recognized as a serious crime, potentially preventing further tragedies like LaPere’s untimely death.

Seeking compensatory damages, Hurley aims to hold the defendants accountable for the life-altering repercussions of the attack. With no response from Eden’s Homes and Property Pals, the legal battle continues as Hurley seeks justice and closure in the aftermath of unspeakable violence.
