Residents in West Park File Lawsuits Over Damages from Propane Explosion

West Park, Florida – Several families affected by a propane explosion that occurred in December have taken legal action against the homeowners responsible for the incident. The explosion at a residence on Southwest 20th Street caused extensive damage to surrounding properties, leading to a series of lawsuits filed in Broward County.

The explosion, which resulted in the destruction of a home owned by Redes Ledix and Pierre Mertus, left 40 nearby homes damaged to varying degrees. In response to the incident, families living across the street and adjacent to the source of the explosion have sought legal recourse against AmeriGas Propane Inc., Ledix, and Mertus.

An investigation into the explosion revealed that a leak in a gas line allowed propane gas to seep into the home, leading to the devastating blast. The presence of a propane tank on the property further corroborated witness reports of a gas smell in the days leading up to the explosion.

Attorney Cam Justice, representing the impacted families, emphasized the negligence of AmeriGas in maintaining the tank, which had not been serviced since 2020. The lawsuits allege that Ledix and Mertus failed to address leaking propane or take necessary precautions, ultimately resulting in the catastrophic incident.

The explosion caused significant damage to neighboring homes, with some being deemed total losses. The affected families are seeking compensation for the extensive losses incurred, including property damage and emotional distress.

As the legal process unfolds, questions remain about the circumstances leading up to the explosion and the responsibility of all parties involved. The impacted families hope to find justice and closure as they navigate the aftermath of the tragic event.
