Arrest Made in Connection to Violent Attack on Indian High Commission in London

London, England – The National Investigation Agency (NIA) made a significant breakthrough on Thursday with the arrest of an individual in connection to the violent attack on the High Commission of India in London in March 2023. Inderpal Singh Gaba, a resident of Hounslow in the United Kingdom, was apprehended in Delhi for his alleged involvement in unlawful activities during the protests that occurred on March 22, 2023. The NIA stated that their investigations revealed a larger conspiracy behind the incidents that occurred in London in March of the previous year. These attacks were believed to be in retaliation to actions taken by the Punjab police against Amritpal Singh, a pro-Khalistani separatist, on March 18, 2023.

In August of the same year, the NIA conducted searches at various locations connected to individuals suspected to have been involved in the attack on the High Commission in London on March 19. It was reported that the High Commission was targeted by a group of around 50 individuals who were accused of committing criminal trespass, disrespecting India’s national flag, damaging public property, and causing harm to High Commission officials. The agency had previously identified Gurcharan Singh of the Dal Khalsa in the UK, Avtar Singh Khanda of the Khalistan Liberation Force (who passed away in a Birmingham hospital in June 2023), Jasvir Singh, and their associates as the organizers of the attack, involving both Indian and foreign nationals.

In another development, a NIA team was dispatched to the U.K. in May of the same year to gather evidence related to the case. This team carried out a “crowdsourcing of information” to identify and collect details about U.K.-based entities and individuals allegedly involved in the conspiracy. The arrest of Inderpal Singh Gaba marks a significant step in the ongoing investigation into the violent attack on the High Commission of India in London and the unlawful activities that unfolded during the subsequent protests. The NIA remains committed to unraveling the complexities of the case and bringing all perpetrators to justice.
