Detectives released images of eight men wanted in the Bedford Park case.
BRONX, N.Y. — An 18-year-old man was beaten and injured during an attempted robbery on Grand Concourse, and police are now searching for eight men wanted in the attack.
The NYPD said the incident happened May 5 at about 9:30 p.m. outside 2917 Grand Concourse in Bedford Park. Police said the group approached the victim from behind, knocked him down and repeatedly punched and kicked him.
Investigators said the men tried to remove items from the victim’s pants pockets before fleeing. The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was in stable condition Sunday night. Police have not reported any arrests.
Detectives later released photos of the men they are trying to identify. Police have not said what led up to the attack, how long it lasted or whether the group left with any property. The victim’s name was not released.
The attack happened in Bedford Park, a north Bronx neighborhood where Grand Concourse serves as a major street for residents, commuters and businesses. Some neighbors said the case added to worries about walking outside late at night.
“It’s not safe,” one resident said, adding that the neighborhood needs more security. Another resident said they avoid dark and empty areas. Bernardo Garcia said he recently heard about another nearby crime involving a chain snatching.
Police said the investigation is ongoing. The next step is identifying the eight men shown in released images and determining what role each person may have played in the attempted robbery and assault.
