Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Rape and Strangulation in Barking Alleyway

LONDON, ENGLAND – A man convicted of raping and strangling a woman behind a row of shops in Barking has been sentenced to ten years in prison. Daniel Jordan, 28, was identified as the perpetrator through DNA evidence and was found to be a repeat offender.

The brutal attack took place in October 2022, leaving the victim to seek support from a team specializing in investigating sexual offenses. The woman contacted the police immediately after the assault, reporting that she had been raped and her attacker had fled the scene.

Law enforcement acted swiftly, providing assistance to the survivor and collecting crucial evidence to bring the perpetrator to justice. The victim recounted the harrowing experience of being physically and sexually assaulted in an alleyway behind Longbridge Road, strangled to the point of losing consciousness.

Detective Sergeant Charlie Yexley of the Metropolitan Police’s east London office, dedicated to investigating sexual offenses, praised the victim’s resilience throughout the trial. He commended her courage in confronting the extreme violence she endured and expressed hope that the verdict brought her some solace.

Following his arrest seven days after the attack, Jordan was charged and remanded the next day. He was ultimately sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court to ten years in prison, with an additional five-year extended license period and a 30-month term for non-fatal strangulation and assault, to be served concurrently.

In addition to his prison sentence, Jordan will be placed on the sex offenders’ register for life. The victim continues to receive support from specialists in sexual offense investigations, reaffirming the commitment to aiding survivors of such heinous crimes.
