Woman Killed After Cars Crash Into Decatur Kroger

Police said two juveniles also were evaluated after the Wesley Chapel Road crash.

DECATUR, Ga. — A 49-year-old woman died Wednesday afternoon after two vehicles crashed into the side of a Kroger on Wesley Chapel Road, authorities said.

DeKalb County police are investigating the crash, which left one driver dead, another driver hospitalized and two juveniles taken for medical evaluations. The DeKalb County medical examiner identified the woman who died as Giselle Perry.

DeKalb County Fire and Rescue Capt. Jaeson Daniels said one vehicle hit another vehicle, pushing both into the grocery store building. The crash happened Wednesday afternoon at the Kroger on Wesley Chapel Road in Decatur. Perry died at the scene. The driver believed to have caused the crash was taken to a hospital with injuries.

Authorities have not said what caused the crash. They also have not released the condition of the hospitalized driver or the two juveniles. Police said the juveniles were on the sidewalk when the crash happened and were taken to a hospital to be checked by medical staff.

Witness Mawakana White described the scene as chaotic. White said she saw a vehicle moving quickly before it struck the other car. “Everybody kept saying, is she going to slow down, is she going to slow down?” White said. “And she didn’t.”

White said people nearby first wondered whether the driver had suffered a medical emergency, but officials had not confirmed that. Investigators have not announced charges, and no final finding on the cause of the crash had been released Thursday morning.

The crash damaged the side of the Kroger and drew emergency crews to the shopping center. Images from the scene showed vehicles near the building after the impact. The store sits along a busy commercial stretch of Wesley Chapel Road in DeKalb County.

Police are continuing to review what happened before the impact. As of Thursday morning, the death investigation remained active, and authorities had released no further details on the next steps.
