Bolton, England — A woman is recovering after a frightening dog attack that occurred near a park in Greater Manchester on January 7. Authorities report that the incident left her with minor injuries as she was attacked by a dog described as “out of control.”
Greater Manchester Police were alerted to the situation just after 2:50 p.m. when witnesses reported the attack on Wolfenden Street, not far from Rawsthorne Park. The woman, whose identity has not been revealed, was seen struggling with the aggressive dog in disturbing footage shared online. The video captures the moment the dog lunges at her, ultimately dragging her to the ground, before she manages to break free.
Following the incident, police seized the dog and arrested a 59-year-old man on suspicion of having a dangerously uncontrolled pet. However, authorities have clarified that the man was not walking the dog at the time of the attack. He was later released on bail as investigations continue, with a search ongoing for the individual who was managing the dog during the incident.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police emphasized that owners have a responsibility to ensure their pets are under control. “The arrested suspect has a duty of care regarding the dog,” the spokesperson stated. “We are focused on locating the individual who was in charge of the animal when the attack occurred.”
Local councilor Safwaan Patel expressed concern over the attack and has been in contact with the victim’s family to discuss further steps. He urged community members to exercise caution when out in the area, especially in the evening.
The dog involved in the incident is currently housed in a secure kennel while the investigation continues. The breed of the dog has not been disclosed by police.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are appealing to the public for any additional information or witnesses to come forward. Concern for community safety remains high, especially in light of this alarming incident.
