Woman Given Suspended Sentence for Violently Pushing Pub-Goer Down Stairs

Neath, Wales – In a disturbing incident at the Castle Hotel bar in Neath town center, a woman named Tina Jones pushed another pub-goer down a flight of stairs, resulting in a broken arm. The victim suffered serious injuries, requiring surgical intervention and facing challenges in daily activities due to limited arm mobility. Jones, a 64-year-old with a history of violent offenses, received a 12-month suspended prison sentence from Swansea Crown Court for the assault.

According to the prosecutor, Brian Simpson, the altercation took place on the evening of December 9, where Jones and the victim, who were familiar with each other, had a confrontation near the bar’s toilets. Instead of entering the restroom, Jones aggressively pushed the victim backward, causing her to fall down a flight of stairs and sustain injuries to her arm. Despite the victim lying in pain on the floor, Jones proceeded to shout at her before returning to the bar.

Following the incident, the victim was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment while Jones was eventually apprehended at a local pizza place. During questioning, Jones admitted to pushing the victim in a fit of rage but denied being heavily under the influence of alcohol. The victim’s recovery process has been long and painful, with ongoing discomfort and limitations in arm movement affecting her daily life.

Jones, who acknowledged causing grievous bodily harm, was represented in court by Dean Pulling, who explained that there was underlying tension between the two women that escalated into the assault. Despite recognizing her overreaction, Jones expressed regret for her actions and received a suspended prison sentence along with requirements for mental health treatment, rehabilitation, and community service.

The judge emphasized the importance of Jones receiving necessary help and support to address her issues, citing society’s best interest in providing her with rehabilitation opportunities. In addition to the sentence, Jones was ordered to pay compensation to her victim and undergo interventions aimed at addressing her behavior. The incident serves as a reminder of the consequences of violent actions and the need for individuals to seek help to prevent future harm.
