Volunteers Step Up to Assist Iron River Community After Tragic House Explosion

IRON RIVER, Mich. – In the aftermath of a devastating house explosion at 820 Cayuga St., a team of dedicated volunteers has come together to help the community of Iron River recover.

The explosion, which occurred on Feb. 10, tragically resulted in the death of the homeowner and caused significant damage to neighboring homes. Since then, volunteers like Joeseph Mowery have been working tirelessly to remove debris and repair windows, all in an effort to assist displaced families in returning to their homes.

Mowery, who drove all the way from his home in Florida to offer his support, has been leading the volunteers in their efforts. With the help of local businesses, materials for the repairs have been provided, ensuring that the necessary resources are available to aid in the recovery process.

Furthermore, Mowery has expressed his intention to install a memorial near the explosion site in honor of the homeowner who tragically lost their life. “We’re putting some flowers on the end over there, I’m going to try to get something over there, and sooner than later we’re going to put a prayer bench over there,” Mowery said, highlighting the community’s collective effort to pay tribute to the victim.

Despite the challenges they have faced, Mowery and the volunteers remain committed to their mission. As Mowery plans his return to Florida, his efforts and the support of the community will continue to play a crucial role in the ongoing recovery and healing process for Iron River.
