Annandale, Virginia – A suspect is now in custody for the “brutal and horrifying” rapes of two women in northern Virginia, announced the Fairfax County Police Department. Kevin Lopez-Altan, 24, from Annandale, was arrested in connection to an abduction and sexual assault that took place in an Annandale business, according to police.
The horrific incidents involved the sexual assault of a 59-year-old woman at her own business in Annandale and a 20-year-old woman on the campus of Northern Virginia Community College. Police reported that the suspect attempted to enter the business multiple times before forcing his way in and assaulting the victim physically and sexually. Despite the ordeal, the victim managed to escape and call for help.
Detectives launched an extensive investigation into the attack, gathering a significant amount of evidence. It was later discovered that another sexual assault had been reported at Northern Virginia Community College, where a victim was able to fight off the attacker and flee. Lopez-Altan, with a criminal history known to law enforcement, was swiftly identified by a Northern Virginia Community College officer who had previous interactions with him while working as a sheriff’s deputy in the area.
During a press conference, Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis expressed the disturbing nature of the crimes, emphasizing the urgent need for information from potential previous victims or community members who may have knowledge of the suspect. Chief Davis highlighted the brazen and bold nature of the attacks, indicating a high probability of additional victims.
Charged with ten felony counts, including rape, forcible sodomy, and abduction, Lopez-Altan remains in custody without bond. Chief Davis described the suspect as “evil personified” and commended law enforcement for preventing further offenses. He urged anyone with information to contact Fairfax County police, reassuring the community of law enforcement’s commitment to ensuring safety and seeking justice in the case.
