Violent Clashes Erupt as Italy Takes on Albania in Euro 2024 Soccer Match

DORTMUND, GERMANY – Fans at the Italy vs Albania Euro 2024 match experienced violent moments in both Dortmund and Berlin. The clash between the two neighboring countries across the Adriatic Sea was anticipated as a high-risk fixture by German authorities. Despite the majority of fans mingling peacefully, there were outbreaks of violence during the event.

In Dortmund, around 100 Albanian ultras dressed in black initiated an attack on Italian fans near a fast-food restaurant. Riot police swiftly intervened to contain the situation. An eyewitness described the sudden eruption of violence and the prompt response of the authorities to maintain order.

Albania fans, estimated to be around 50,000, marched peacefully in Dortmund towards Borussia Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park ahead of the match. Although there were no issues during the march, smoke bombs and flares were ignited. Security measures were in place around the stadium and various transportation hubs, with the majority of fans attending the match in good spirits.

Before the match, fans dressed in black attempted to force their way to the front of the end where most Italy supporters were seated. Some individuals were observed making Nazi salutes during the Italian national anthem. Unfortunately, incidents of disorder were not limited to Dortmund, as one person was seriously injured in Berlin when a shot was fired while fans watched the match.

Italy managed to come from behind after 23 seconds of the game to secure a 2-1 victory, commencing their Euro 2024 title defense on a positive note. Despite the violent incidents, the majority of fans displayed good sportsmanship and enjoyed the event peacefully.
