Vigil Held for Carencro Native Slain in Lafayette, Calls for End to Gun Violence

Carencro, Louisiana – A somber vigil was held in remembrance of Elzy Cyprian, a 29-year-old Carencro native who tragically became Lafayette’s fourth murder victim of the year. Family and friends gathered at Carencro Park on Wednesday, March 27, to honor his memory with a balloon release.

Cyprian lost his life as a result of a violent altercation that escalated into a fatal shooting along Harrison Drive in Lafayette over the weekend. The community came together to mourn his untimely passing and reflect on the senseless act of violence that claimed his life.

Following the tragic event, police swiftly took action and apprehended Jasyri Hilliard, a 27-year-old from St. Martinville, on a charge of second-degree murder. The arrest provided a sense of closure to those grieving the loss of Cyprian and marked a step towards justice for the victim and his loved ones.

During the vigil, attendees expressed their profound sorrow over the loss of Cyprian and emphasized the importance of finding peaceful resolutions to conflicts instead of resorting to gun violence. The gathering served as a poignant reminder of the impact of such tragic events on the community and highlighted the need for unity and solidarity in times of adversity.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of this heartbreaking incident, the vigil for Elzy Cyprian stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of remembrance and resilience in the face of adversity.
