Police say the wounded man was found on Campbellton Road after gunfire apparently occurred less than a mile away on Alison Court.
ATLANTA — Atlanta police are investigating a southwest Atlanta shooting that left a 36-year-old man hospitalized and led officers to examine two locations after the wounded man was found at a Campbellton Road gas station Wednesday night.
Officers responded at about 8:25 p.m. Oct. 28 to a report of a person shot at 1975 Campbellton Road SW, where they found the man suffering from gunshot wounds to his head and back, according to police. Emergency medical personnel took him to a hospital. Police said he was alert, conscious and breathing when he was transported. His name has not been released.
The investigation soon expanded beyond the place where officers found the victim. Police identified 1935 Alison Court SW, the address of The Premier at 1935 apartment complex, as the location where the shooting occurred. Officers who searched that area found multiple shell casings, creating a second scene for investigators to examine.
The two locations are less than a mile apart, according to local news reports. Detectives with the Atlanta Police Department’s Aggravated Assault Unit went to the Alison Court location to interview witnesses and determine what happened before and during the shooting. Authorities have not explained how the wounded man traveled from the apartment complex to the gas station.
The distinction between where the gunfire occurred and where the victim was found is one of the clearest facts released so far. Police responded initially to Campbellton Road because that was where the injured man was located, but evidence recovered on Alison Court led investigators back to the apartment property as they worked to reconstruct the sequence of events.
Authorities had not publicly identified a suspect or released a description of a possible suspect or vehicle in the latest reports. Police also had not disclosed what they believe led to the shooting or whether the victim and the person who fired the shots knew each other. Those questions remain part of the active investigation.
No later public update located through Nov. 1 provided a new condition for the victim beyond the initial report that he was conscious and breathing when taken to the hospital. Police also had not announced an arrest or identified the wounded man in the reports reviewed.
Investigators have not publicly detailed what witnesses may have told detectives or whether additional evidence was recovered beyond the shell casings reported at the Alison Court scene. Police have characterized the information released about the case as part of an ongoing investigation, leaving the circumstances surrounding the shooting unresolved.
The Atlanta Police Department’s Aggravated Assault Unit continues to investigate the case. As of the latest available reporting, authorities had not announced a suspect, motive or arrest and had not explained the victim’s movement between the two locations.
