Utah Man Charged with Murder After Allegedly Killing Coworker at Storage Facility

Salt Lake City, Utah – A man has been charged with murder after allegedly killing his coworker at a storage facility in Salt Lake City, Utah, following a dispute over personal belongings. The suspect, Nathan David Evans, is accused of brutally killing his colleague, David Hinkebein, in a shocking act of workplace violence.

The incident unfolded on December 29 when a driver overheard Evans discussing his plans to go to the warehouse to kill someone who had tampered with his belongings. Subsequently, Hinkebein and Evans were left alone at the storage facility, and when another coworker returned to work, they discovered evidence of a violent altercation, including bloody handprints and a blood-stained carpet.

Upon further investigation, police found a hammer next to a minifridge with blood and hair matching Evans’ and a garbage bag containing clothes worn by Evans, stained with blood. The medical examiner’s autopsy revealed at least 15 blunt force injuries to Hinkebein’s head, consistent with a hammer.

Evans has been charged with first-degree felony murder and felony abuse of a human body. Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill expressed outrage at the shocking act of workplace violence and extended condolences to those who knew Hinkebein through his work with the homeless in Salt Lake County.

The investigation into Hinkebein’s death is ongoing, and Evans’ trial date has not yet been scheduled. The tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of the need for safe work environments and the consequences of workplace violence.
