ELDORET, Uganda – The global athletics community is grieving the tragic death of Benjamin Kiplagat, a well-known Ugandan steeplechaser and recipient of the 2008 World Junior 3,000m silver medal. Kiplagat’s life came to a sudden and violent end when he was found murdered on a road in Kimumu, Eldoret, sending shockwaves throughout the sporting world.
Authorities reported that law enforcement officers received information aligning with an accident before discovering Kiplagat in his vehicle with severe stab wounds to his chest and a deep cut on his neck. The circumstances suggested foul play, with evidence pointing to a collision between Kiplagat’s vehicle and a strategically placed motorcycle before the perpetrator fled the scene.
Originally from Marakwet East, Kiplagat had been training rigorously in Eldoret before his scheduled participation in various competitions in Uganda. With notable achievements representing Uganda in prestigious global events, Kiplagat left his mark on the athletic world. His sudden and heartbreaking passing serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability even esteemed sports figures face, leaving a profound void in the sporting world.
