HUNTSVILLE, Utah – A single-engine plane crash into Pineview Reservoir left two individuals stranded on a frozen lake on Friday. Despite the plane sinking into the water, both occupants managed to escape without any injuries, according to Weber Fire District officials.
Weber Fire District Chief, Paul Sullivan, reported that the plane crashed into the water, with the occupants safely making their way onto the ice. The incident occurred as the occupants were performing touch-and-go maneuvers on the ice before breaking through.
Casey Naef, Battalion Chief of the Weber Fire District, stated that the occupants were able to exit the plane on their own, and later treated for exposure to the cold. They were released from the hospital after receiving medical attention.
The crashing of the plane into the reservoir has prompted an investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the Forest Service to determine the cause of the incident. The recovery of the plane from the ice is expected to be a lengthy process.
