Triad Mother’s Daughter Waits for Murder Trial for Justice after Tragic Shooting

Lexington, North Carolina – Closure in the face of losing a loved one to gun violence can take many forms, each unique to the individual. Tichina Taylor’s mother, Wanda Taylor – known as Queen – tragically lost her life to a shooting in Lexington back in July 2018.

Now, Tichina’s main focus is on seeing the trial of the man charged with her mother’s murder officially commence. She expressed frustration with the delay, stating that justice has not yet been served.

According to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, Wanda Taylor was found shot and killed at a residence off Lanie Creek Drive in Lexington on July 8, 2018. The investigation revealed that Wanda was visiting her sister and her fiancé, Gregory Kennedy, who is accused of the fatal shooting.

Kennedy was charged with first-degree murder and has been held without bond ever since. Despite anticipation for the trial to begin, a last-minute call from prosecutors indicated a delay due to the defense not being prepared.

Upon reaching out to Davidson County District Attorney Garry Frank, it was disclosed that the defendant had requested a continuance, which was granted by the judge. This delay was partly due to a change in defense attorneys.

While awaiting the trial, Tichina reminisces about the happy memories shared with her mother and emphasizes the urgency for the legal process to move forward swiftly. She sees the lawyers as the voice for her mother in seeking justice, and expects them to fulfill that role effectively.

As of now, no official start date has been set for Wanda’s murder trial. The district attorney for Davidson County affirmed readiness to proceed with the case whenever needed. The quest for closure and justice continues for Tichina as she waits for the legal system to address the tragic loss of her mother.
