HOUMA, Louisiana – On February 1st, 2024, the Houma Police Department responded to a shooting in the 1100 block of Lafayette Street. Two individuals were injured, with one tragically losing their life. The suspect, who was quickly identified and later turned himself in, was found to be employed at a local juvenile detention center.
The victims, identified as a 20-year-old male and a 14-year-old male, were both found suffering from gunshot wounds upon the officers’ arrival. The 20-year-old, Terrance Scott, succumbed to his injuries at the medical facility, while the 14-year-old is expected to recover.
The investigation revealed that the suspect, Terrance Simms, had befriended the 14-year-old while employed at the Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Detention Center. After the juvenile’s release, a conversation about the sale of a firearm took place, leading to an agreement to meet on Lafayette Street. The sale turned violent, resulting in an exchange of gunfire and the tragic loss of Terrance Scott’s life.
Simms, who fled the scene but later turned himself in, has been arrested for one count of 2nd Degree Murder and one count of Attempted 2nd Degree Murder. The juvenile has also been arrested for one count of Attempted 2nd Degree Murder.
