Tragic Shooting Incident in Killeen Ends in Apparent Murder-Suicide in Lampasas County

Killeen, Texas – Authorities are currently investigating a tragic shooting that occurred in Killeen and ended with the suspect taking their own life in Lampasas County. The Killeen Police Department, along with the Copperas Cove Police Department and the Lampasas County Sheriff’s Department, are actively involved in the case.

The incident unfolded at the 6300 block of Taree Loop in southwest Killeen around 2:48 p.m. when KPD officers responded to reports of a male victim with gunshot wounds. Upon arrival, the officers discovered the victim but no suspect was present at the scene. However, the suspected shooter did contact 911 to report the incident.

Subsequently, Copperas Cove Police located the suspect’s vehicle and initiated a traffic stop in Lampasas County. The suspect, refusing to exit the vehicle, ultimately inflicted a fatal gunshot wound on themselves. Authorities have confirmed that no law enforcement officers discharged their weapons during the encounter.

The Lampasas County Sheriff’s Department, in conjunction with the Texas Rangers, will oversee the death investigation within Lampasas County. The investigation remains ongoing at this time, as officials work diligently on piecing together the events that led to this tragic outcome.
