Tragic Shooting in Carteret, NJ Leaves One Indian Woman Dead and Another in Critical Condition

Carteret, New Jersey – Tragedy struck when gunshots pierced the air, leaving two Indian women fatally wounded. The assailant, an Indian man of origin traced back to Nakodar, a small town in Punjab, orchestrated the heinous attack. The incident claimed the life of one woman, while the other fights for survival.

The roots of this violent act stretch across continents, spanning over 11,500 km to an IELTS center in Nakodar, Punjab. Gaurav Gill, a nineteen-year-old, opened fire on Jasvir Kaur, twenty-nine, and Gagandeep Kaur, twenty, both hailing from Punjab. Despite Jasvir succumbing to her injuries, Gagandeep remains in critical condition at University Hospital Newark.

Gill and Gagandeep had crossed paths at an IELTS coaching center in Nakodar, where they were both students. Jasvir, who hosted Gagandeep at her home in Gorsian near Nurmahal, was tragically caught in the crossfire while trying to intervene in an altercation between Gagandeep and Gill.

As details emerged, it was revealed that Gagandeep, studying in the US on a visa, had shared her academic struggles with Jasvir. No prior disputes involving Gill had been reported by Gagandeep’s family, who were taken aback by the unforeseen violence that shattered their lives.

Gill, who had also migrated to the US around the same time as Gagandeep, was swiftly apprehended six hours after the incident not far from the crime scene. Facing serious charges, including first-degree murder and attempted murder, Gill appeared in court for a preliminary hearing before Judge Gary Price, with another session scheduled for the following week.

Investigations into the motive behind the shooting are ongoing, with authorities yet to establish any connection between Gill and the victims. The community mourns the senseless loss of life and prays for Gagandeep’s recovery, grappling with the incomprehensible tragedy that has shaken Carteret to its core.
