Tragic School Bus Crash in Bastrop County Leaves Two Dead and Dozens Injured

BASTROP COUNTY, Texas – A tragic school bus crash has resulted in the loss of two lives and multiple injuries on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred on 2751 W. SH 21 near Caldwell Road, prompting a swift response from emergency officials in Bastrop County.

Reports indicate that at least 50 individuals were involved in the rollover crash, leading to the closure of SH 21 due to “multiple” fatalities. The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the occurrence of at least two deaths, including that of a child.

The Texas Department of Public Safety revealed that a bus belonging to the Hays Consolidated Independent School District, transporting Tom Green Elementary preschool students, collided with a concrete truck near Mustang Ridge. Medics and emergency response teams were quick to the scene, with Travis County STARflight helicopters arriving to transport four individuals while others were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Among the 44 students and 11 adults on board the bus, several were injured, although the exact number of injuries has not been disclosed. The students were returning from an educational trip to the Bastrop Zoo, as noted in a news release from Hays CISD.

Parents of the students involved were promptly notified, and efforts to reunite families are currently underway.
