Tragic Plane Crash Claims Lives of Young Couple Weeks Before Wedding Day

HALF MOON BAY, Calif. – A tragic plane crash off the coast of Half Moon Bay claimed the lives of a young couple who were set to be married next weekend. Cassidy Rae Petit, 26, and her fiancĂ© Lochie Ferrier, 27, were on board a single-engine Cozy Mark IV aircraft that crashed into the ocean near Ross’ Cove on Jan. 14. Federal investigators believe that there were four people aboard the plane, but no survivors have been found. So far, only the body of 27-year-old Emma Willmer-Shiles has been recovered.

According to an obituary for Petit, the couple got engaged in Mexico on Sept. 27, 2023, and had planned to get married in Hawaii at sunrise on Sunday, Jan. 28. The obituary described Petit’s free-spirited nature, stating that she intended to surf in her wedding gown following the ceremony. However, instead of celebrating their wedding, a shared service for Petit and Ferrier is set to take place in Burlington, Vermont.

The tragic accident has left the families and friends of the couple devastated, as they mourn the loss of two young lives and the untimely end to a love story. The search for the remaining passengers continues as investigators work to determine the cause of the crash and bring closure to the families of the victims.

The planned wedding, which was supposed to be a joyous occasion, has now turned into a memorial service for the couple. The community, both in Half Moon Bay and in Vermont, is coming together to support the families and honor the memories of Petit and Ferrier. It’s a heartbreaking reminder of the fragility of life and the unexpected tragedies that can occur, leaving a deep impact on those left behind.

As the investigation unfolds and the families prepare to say their final goodbyes, the story of Cassidy Rae Petit and Lochie Ferrier serves as a poignant reminder to cherish every moment and hold onto those we love, as we never know what tomorrow may bring.
