Tragic End for Beloved American Idol Staffer: Young Suspect Charged with Double Murder in LA Home Invasion

Los Angeles, Calif. — A 22-year-old man has been charged with murder and burglary in connection with the deaths of a longtime music supervisor for “American Idol” and her husband. The couple was found shot in their home in an affluent neighborhood last week, prompting an investigation that has shocked the community.

Robin Kaye, 70, who worked as the music supervisor for “American Idol” for 16 years, and her husband, Thomas DeLuca, also 70, were discovered dead during a welfare check at their Encino residence. Authorities stated that Kaye was instrumental in managing song rights for the popular reality show, helping to shape its musical landscape since 2009.

The suspect, Raymond Boodarian, faces two counts of murder and one count of residential burglary. He appeared in court on Thursday and is being held without bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 20. Los Angeles Police Department officials reported that Boodarian allegedly entered the couple’s property by scaling an eight-foot fence and confronted them upon their return home.

Investigators believe the couple was killed on July 10, following reports of a man seen climbing their fence. Despite attempts to check on the couple that day, police found no immediate signs of trouble, initially delaying their discovery of the crime. It wasn’t until four days later that officers located Kaye and DeLuca’s bodies inside the home.

Authorities noted that there appeared to be no forced entry, suggesting the suspect may have accessed the house through an unlocked door. Once inside, a violent confrontation ensued, resulting in multiple gunshot wounds that proved fatal for both victims.

In a heartfelt statement, representatives from “American Idol” expressed their grief, describing Kaye as a beloved member of their team. Her contributions to the show earned her deep respect within the entertainment community. The statement emphasized that Kaye’s legacy will endure, as she profoundly impacted those who knew her.

Kaye’s impressive career extended beyond “American Idol.” She also contributed to other productions such as “Lip Sync Battle” and “The Singing Bee.” Her professional journey began in artist management and music licensing, working with notable figures and transitioning to her own company, where she represented various acclaimed artists.

As the investigation continues, officials are working to piece together the final moments leading up to the tragic events. Community members are mourning the loss of Kaye and DeLuca, who were well-known in their neighborhood, highlighting the need for increased safety and vigilance in upscale areas.
