Cincinnati, Ohio — A tragic shooting near the University of Cincinnati campus early Monday claimed the lives of two individuals with three more injured, according to local police authorities. Amidst the immediate aftermath, a man was seen fleeing into a residence with a firearm. He later emerged voluntarily and was detained by the police for interrogation. The University of Cincinnati quickly responded to the crisis by sending out a UC Alert notification to its students and staff at 2:55 a.m., urging them to stay put and remain vigilant. By 3:12 a.m., the emergency was officially identified as an active shooter situation, leading to heightened responses from various law enforcement agencies. An all-clear was issued at 3:52 a.m. after officers secured the area and confirmed there were no additional threats.
Investigations are currently ongoing, led by the Cincinnati Police’s Homicide Unit. The area around Highland and East University Avenues remains partly cordoned off as detectives gather evidence and attempt to reconstruct the sequence of events that led to the shooting.
