On March 13, 2023, a severe explosion leveled Davies’ rented one-bedroom home on Clydach Road in Morriston. The blast was so powerful that initial responders were unaware a house had previously occupied the site. A neighbor, Claire Bennett, recounted her harrowing experience, stating that she was on the sofa when the explosion occurred. She recalled hearing a loud bang, initially thinking a vehicle had struck her home.
Bennett described a disorienting aftermath: “Everything went dark for a couple of seconds. I wasn’t sure if I had passed out,” she said. Upon regaining her senses, she found herself trapped under debris, unable to move. Frantically, she attempted to call for her son, who had been upstairs, but struggled to catch her breath amid the chaos. A rescuing stranger reassured her, pulling debris away and aiding her escape.

Davies’ son, Ricky Lyn Davies, expressed heartbreak over the loss of his father, who was known for his vitality and love for life. He described his father as an active man who took pride in his home and enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren.
The property was managed by a private landlord, and Wales & West Utilities, responsible for the local gas network, is being scrutinized during the ongoing inquiry.
