Tragedy Strikes as Plane Carrying Nine Passengers Crashes on Lizard Island

CAIRNS, Australia – A plane carrying nine passengers, including a young child, crashed on Lizard Island in the Great Barrier Reef after overshooting the runway, prompting a rescue operation to the scene at Lizard Island, a small granite island about 1624km northwest of Brisbane. Two rescue helicopters and a Royal Flying Doctor Service plane were deployed to the scene following reports of the crash at 7.30am on Monday.

The Queensland Ambulance Service reported that the aircraft overshot the runway, resulting in injuries to two people, though their conditions and those of the other passengers have not been confirmed.
