Tragedy in Gold Coast: Seven Arrested in Connection with Fatal Smash-and-Grab at Louis Vuitton

CHICAGO — Seven individuals face first-degree murder charges following a deadly incident linked to a smash-and-grab robbery at a Louis Vuitton store early Thursday morning. The violent theft occurred in the affluent Gold Coast neighborhood, resulting in the tragic death of a bystander.

The chaos unfolded just before 5 a.m. when a group used a pickup truck to crash through the store’s entrance on East Walton Street. Eyewitness footage captured the scene as multiple suspects rushed in and out, hauling away merchandise while honking cars navigated around the shattered glass littering the sidewalk.

After the robbery, at least nine suspects fled the scene in various vehicles, abandoning the pickup truck they used in the initial break-in. One of the stolen cars, a Kia Stinger, was involved in a collision shortly afterward at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Ohio Street. The Kia struck a Honda CR-V, which was not connected to the robbery. The driver of the Honda, identified as 40-year-old Mark Arceta from Skokie, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

Five suspects from the Kia Stinger were apprehended after sustaining non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. Meanwhile, another vehicle linked to the robbery, an Infiniti Q50, managed to evade police briefly before losing control on Lake Shore Drive. Four suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot, prompting a police chase that resulted in two additional arrests.

Authorities have released the names of those charged in connection to the incident, with all seven suspects facing multiple charges, including theft and burglary:

– Dejuan Wingard, 30, of Chicago: Charged with murder, burglary, theft, and reckless homicide.
– Darius Bowdry, 30, of Chicago: Charged with murder, theft, burglary, resisting arrest, and several warrants.
– Keller McMillan, 35, of Chicago: Charged with murder, burglary, theft, and multiple warrants.

– Anthony Hemphill, 22, of Chicago: Charged with murder, burglary, and theft.
– Keith Perkins, 19, of Orland Hills: Charged with murder, burglary, and theft.

Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the incident, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance in response to escalating crime trends. As investigations proceed, the community mourns the loss of Mark Arceta, a victim caught in the crossfire of a violent and chaotic crime.
