Bath, Somerset – A tragic incident unfolded at a house party in Bath, Somerset, resulting in the death of Mikey Roynon, who was fatally stabbed during an altercation. Three teenagers, Shane Cunningham, Leo Knight, and Cartel Bushnell, faced justice for their roles in the killing.

Cunningham, aged 16, was convicted of murder, while Knight and Bushnell, also 16, were convicted of manslaughter. The judge lifted their rights to anonymity, and they were sentenced accordingly, with Bushnell receiving a nine-year term and Knight receiving nine years and six months.

During the trial, it was revealed that Cunningham had stabbed Mikey Roynon, claiming self-defense. However, it was Mikey who sustained severe injuries and tragically lost his life. The defendants fled the scene, disposed of their weapons and clothing, but were later captured on CCTV discussing the incident.

Det Insp Mark Newbury, the lead investigator, described Mikey’s death as senseless and heartbreaking, emphasizing the need for community support in addressing the issue of knife crime. Agencies are working together to understand the root causes and provide necessary support to prevent such tragedies from recurring.

Mikey’s family expressed profound grief and devastation in their victim impact statements, highlighting the irreplaceable loss they have suffered. The sentencing at Bristol Crown Court served as a closure for the family, yet the pain of their loss remains deep and profound.
