Teenage Fatally Shot at Brookland Metro Station in Northeast; Suspected Shooter’s Photo Released by DC Police

Washington, D.C. – A tragic incident unfolded at the Brookland Metro Station in Northeast Washington, where a teenage boy lost his life after being shot on Thursday afternoon. Details provided by authorities indicate that a group of teenagers was involved in a physical altercation inside the station when an unidentified suspect, not part of the initial fight, fired the fatal shots.

According to Deputy Chief Maurice McKinney of Metro Transit Police, the shooting occurred shortly before 4 p.m. on the station’s platform located in the 800 block of Monroe Street. Although the victim was engaged in the altercation, authorities are uncertain if he was the intended target of the shooter.

In response to the incident, D.C. police have shared images of the suspected shooter on social media as part of their ongoing search efforts. Despite life-saving efforts by authorities at the scene, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by D.C. Fire and EMS personnel.

Following the shooting, the Brookland station was temporarily closed to facilitate investigations by law enforcement. Services resumed later in the evening, with enhanced security measures implemented by both D.C. police and Metro Transit Police at the station and surrounding areas, including Catholic University of America.

Following a shelter-in-place order and the cancellation of classes at the university’s main campus, authorities confirmed that there was no active threat, allowing normal activities to resume. The university president encouraged the community to seek support and engage in discussions about the unsettling incident.

An investigation into the shooting is underway, with authorities urging anyone with information to contact the police department’s designated hotline. The tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the need for continued vigilance and support for those affected by such acts of violence.
