Teen Arrested in Connection with Shooting Death of 14-Year-Old Rankin County Student

Jackson, Mississippi – Authorities have made a third arrest in connection with the tragic shooting that claimed the life of a 14-year-old student from Rankin County. Siyaski Crawford, 15, is the latest individual to be taken into custody, with a bond set at $1.5 million. Alongside Crawford, 16-year-old Maxle Mooneyham and 17-year-old John Foote have also been charged in the case. Foote, unlike the others, is being held without bond. The Jackson police Chief Joseph Wade has hinted at the possibility of a fourth arrest in relation to the incident.

The victim, Cameron Horne-Crook, was found deceased on Monday night at a residence on Ridgecrest Drive. Horne’s mother, Violet Horne, is convinced that her son was intentionally led to the location where the tragic event unfolded. She disclosed that both her son and one of the suspects had previously attended an alternative school together, adding to the complexity of the situation. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear to Horne, leaving her grieving without answers.

During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Horne-Crook had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso. Mooneyham reportedly discarded the victim’s body on a street before driving the truck back to Rankin County. Authorities suspect that Mooneyham attempted to conceal evidence by cleaning out the vehicle upon returning. The charges against Mooneyham may escalate to capital murder as the investigation progresses.

Northwest Rankin Middle School, where Horne-Crook was a student, issued a heartfelt statement acknowledging the loss of their student. The school district has made counselors available to provide support to the affected students and staff members during this challenging time. The community is reeling from the tragedy as they come to terms with the loss of a young life. As the investigation continues and more details surface, the hope for justice and closure prevails in the hearts of many.
