Suspect with Violent Past Arrested for Murder on Portland’s Eastbank Esplanade

Portland, Oregon – A murder suspect with a violent past, Abel Nistor, is facing second-degree murder charges after being accused of killing a man on the Eastbank Esplanade near the Hawthorne Bridge. This recent incident has led to Nistor finding himself behind bars once again.

Authorities have reported that Nistor’s defense attorney has invoked his right to remain silent and his right to counsel at all critical stages of the proceeding. This comes after Nistor’s past criminal history, which includes a disturbing incident in 2015 when he pleaded guilty to killing his family dog with a knife and hammer. At the time, he confessed to enjoying the act, leading to a six-month sentence for animal cruelty.

After serving his sentence for the animal cruelty case, Nistor was involved in another violent encounter in which he broke into the family home and assaulted his father. Subsequently, his brother intervened by using bear spray to protect their father, who Nistor believed was possessed by demons.

Despite being sentenced to nearly a year in prison for his attacks on his father, Nistor was released early in November 2023. However, his recent arrest and the murder charge he now faces are part of a series of violent incidents in and around the waterfront area of Portland, including assaults and stabbings within a short timeframe.

As this case unfolds, Nistor’s defense attorney has indicated that a plea will be entered at a later date pending the grand jury’s decision. The community and authorities are now grappling with the implications of Nistor’s violent behavior and the need for justice in the wake of these disturbing events.
