Standoff in West Harris County Leads to Arrest of Murder Suspect After Gas Station Shooting

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A man suspected of fatally shooting a woman near the Museum District on Tuesday was apprehended after a tense standoff in west Harris County on Wednesday night. The suspect, identified as Tilford Anthony Joseph, 46, was taken into custody at an apartment complex in the Katy area, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed.

Deputies responded to a weapons disturbance call at the apartment complex on Westborough Drive, just north of the Katy Freeway, where they found the suspect barricaded inside an apartment. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Joseph was wanted for murder and aggravated assault of a peace officer in connection with the previous day’s shooting incident.

The fatal encounter began early Tuesday morning when paramedics from the Houston Fire Department witnessed a domestic violence dispute at a gas station near the Museum District. The victim, identified as Teresa Houston, 44, was shot multiple times by the suspect in a tragic incident that unfolded in front of witnesses.

After exchanging gunfire with a deputy constable and fleeing the scene in the officer’s vehicle, the suspect returned to continue shooting before escaping in his own car. The deputy constable sustained minor injuries during the confrontation but is expected to recover. According to authorities, the suspect has a history of domestic violence, and the victim was a staff member at a local high school.

The standoff at the apartment complex in west Harris County culminated in Joseph’s peaceful surrender to law enforcement. The timely intervention of deputies and officers ensured the safety of the community and the successful apprehension of the suspect.
