South Boston Man Held Without Bail for Alleged Violent Attack at MBTA Station

BOSTON, MA – A South Boston man, Thomas Digaetano, found himself held without bail for his alleged involvement in a violent attack at an MBTA station on June 4. The 42-year-old faces charges of assault to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, with a 22-page criminal record to his name, including open cases in South Boston involving assault, battery, strangulation, and kidnapping, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden.

Digaetano was reportedly spotted engaging in a physical altercation near the Ellery Street entrance of the Andrew Station T stop around 4:15 p.m. Police say he fled towards Southampton Street and was later arrested. The victim, a 41-year-old male, suffered multiple lacerations to his head and abdomen and was taken to Boston Medical Center for treatment.

Surveillance footage revealed Digaetano attacking the victim with a knife, while a second suspect, currently being sought, was seen kicking and punching the victim when he was on the ground. Hayden condemned the violence, labeling it as intolerable and unacceptable, particularly in a busy transit station where safety and efficiency are key expectations for the public.

Digaetano is set to appear in court on June 11 for a dangerousness hearing. Authorities are urging anyone with information on the second suspect or the stabbing incident to contact Boston Police. The investigation is ongoing, with updates anticipated as more details emerge.
