Six People Shot in Northeast D.C., Leaving One Dead: Police Seek Car Involved

Washington, D.C. – A tragic shooting incident in Northeast D.C. on Wednesday evening resulted in the death of one individual and left five others injured, as reported by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).

The shooting took place in the 1100 block of 21st Street near Maryland Avenue around 6 p.m., where a man lost his life and two men, one woman, a 9-year-old, and a 12-year-old sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Following the incident, MPD released images of a light blue Toyota sedan with dark tinted windows and black rims, believed to be involved in the shooting. The car, lacking front tags, was last seen traveling eastbound on Maryland Avenue NE.

According to MPD, two unidentified suspects disembarked from the vehicle and opened fire, with their relationship to the victims remaining unclear.

Reacting to the shooting, Ward 5 ANC Commissioner Kathy Henderson expressed her dismay, labeling the event as “outrageous” and “frustrating.”

Henderson emphasized the impact of such violence on the local community, noting the sense of fear and insecurity that pervades the neighborhood, especially among families with young children.

The incident drew condemnation from Police Chief Pamela Smith, who underscored the need to address and prevent such acts of violence in the community.

Residents near the scene echoed their concerns, with Miriam Garcia expressing unease over the safety of being outdoors with her children in the wake of the shooting.

As the investigation continues, MPD urged anyone with relevant information to contact authorities immediately with the designated event number #I20240175577.
