Shootout Unfolds after Murder Suspects Collide with Amazon Van During Dramatic Chase

Memphis, Tennessee – An attempted murder suspect was killed after a high-speed chase that resulted in a crash and a police-involved shooting with Shelby County deputies. The high-speed pursuit came to an end near an Amazon facility in the Raleigh area on Thursday morning.

Officials from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. when deputies attempted to apprehend a suspect wanted by the Germantown Police Department for an attempted murder case. Despite efforts to halt the suspect, he swiftly fled the scene. Shortly after, law enforcement located him around 8 a.m. on Criumpler Road at East Shelby Drive. A chase ensued, progressing onto New Allen Road and Victory Ridge Cove. Authorities made several attempts to halt the suspect’s vehicle, resorting to different methods.

According to witness accounts and video footage shared on social media, the suspect crashed into a van and subsequently opened fire on deputies. In response, law enforcement officials returned fire, resulting in the suspect’s death at the scene. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed the deceased suspect was 31-year-old Johnathan Bady.

One witness described the chaotic scene, recounting that the pursued vehicle was traveling at least 80 mph when it collided with an Amazon truck on New Allen Road. Shortly after the crash, the witness heard gunshots and saw deputies exit their vehicle with weapons drawn, leading to the exchange of gunfire. Fortunately, no deputies sustained injuries, but the van’s driver was taken to Regional One Hospital for non-critical injuries.

This case has now been handed over to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for further review and investigation. The incident on Thursday morning follows an earlier notice issued by the Germantown Police Department, requesting information regarding a suspect involved in a shooting that wounded a woman. Johnathan Bady was identified as the suspect in that case. Over the past few days, law enforcement had received reports of shots fired on Riverdale in the 2200 block. While no injuries were reported on Tuesday, a woman was struck by a bullet on Thursday, sustaining non-critical injuries.

A warrant had already been issued for Bady’s arrest due to concerns about his armed status and threats made against law enforcement officials.
