In Ohio, a spokesperson confirmed that at least three people lost their lives when a tornado struck the Indian Lake and Orchard Island communities, northwest of Columbus. Indiana also felt the impact, with 38 individuals sustaining injuries and numerous homes and businesses being leveled by the storms. Meanwhile, in northern Kentucky, over 100 buildings were damaged by the suspected tornadoes.
The National Weather Service reported an unprecedented 670 severe weather incidents across 12 states on Thursday, including 500 reports of hail. The widespread destruction caused by the storms has left many communities reeling, with thousands of utility customers left without power in the wake of the devastation.
In Logan County, Ohio, search and rescue efforts are underway as first responders work to navigate the widespread damage and debris. Gas leaks and downed power lines have made access to some areas challenging, prompting the use of heavy equipment to clear paths and assess the extent of the destruction.
In neighboring Indiana, Mayor Bob McCoy reported 38 injuries in the wake of the storms, but fortunately, no fatalities were reported. The town of Winchester suffered significant damage, with homes destroyed and structures left in ruins. Emergency services are working around the clock to provide support to affected residents and families in need.
Kentucky also felt the brunt of the storms, with Trimble County Emergency Management Director Andrew Stark confirming significant damage in the town of Milton. Governor Andy Beshear reassured residents that relief efforts were underway, with minimal injuries reported despite the destruction of over 100 structures.
