San Rafael Woman Arrested for Fatally Stabbing Mother, Live-Streaming Incident on Facebook

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – A woman from San Rafael, California, was taken into custody as the suspect in the fatal stabbing of her mother at an apartment complex. The incident was reportedly streamed live on Facebook, according to a statement by the San Rafael Police.

The police responded to a report of a fight and possible stabbing in progress at Cresta Way in the Terra Linda district just before 5 p.m. Initial calls about the incident came from witnesses at the scene and from those who saw it on the Facebook Live video platform.

Upon arrival, officers found a woman holding a knife and her clothes soaked in blood, standing next to another woman who had been stabbed. Despite officers’ commands, the woman with the knife did not respond, and was immediately taken into custody after other officers forced their entry into the apartment.

The victim, a 55-year-old San Rafael woman, was transported to a hospital by the San Rafael Fire Department. Despite the efforts of hospital staff, the victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased an hour and a half after arrival.

The suspect, identified as Tonantzyn Oris Beltran, a 28-year-old San Rafael resident, was arrested for murder. It was determined that she is the daughter of the victim. Detectives were working to determine the circumstances that led to the homicide, and authorities were also working with the Marin County Coroner’s Office as part of the investigation.

The victim’s name was withheld by the coroner’s office, and the San Rafael Police, in collaboration with Meta, withheld information about the Facebook Live video out of respect for the victim and her family.

The community was urged to come forward with any information about the crime by contacting the San Rafael Police.
